The Beginnings of Coffee
Did you know Coffee is a seed of a berry? The word ‘coffee’ entered the English language in 1598 via the Italian word ‘Caffe’. However, the history of coffee is much older. Coffee has been recorded as far back as the eleventh centenary!

Initially coffee remained largely in Ethiopia, where native beans were first cultivated. However, the Arab world began expanding its trade and coffee soon moved into Northern Africa, where it was mass-cultivated. From here the beans entered into the Indian and European markets and the popularity of coffee soon began to spread.

According to legend, coffee was originally discovered by goat herder called Kaldi. It is believed he found his goats dancing joyously after eating berries from an unknown bush, he ate them himself, and found these berries gave him a renewed vigour.

Today coffee is the world’s most popular beverage with over 400 billions cups consumed each year.
