Caffeine is a drug which has been used widely for centuries. It’s main affect is a mild stimulant of the central nervous system, helping to reduce feelings of drowsiness and fatigue.

Caffeine is a naturally occurring substance found in leaves, seeds or fruits of more than 60 plants. These are used to make beverages such as coffee, tea and cola drinks as well as foods such as chocolate. It is also found in many over the counter prescription medications.

The affects of Coffee on health has been studied for more than a century. For every report that alleges a potential health risk, another may discredit or show benefits. Although caffeine does not fall into the class of "addictive" drugs, it may be habit-forming. Some people may experience headache, fatigue, irritability and nervousness when their daily intake of caffeine is quickly and substantially altered. It is also generally agreed that pregnant women should limited their coffee consumption.

However, did you know that drinking a cup of coffee can help calm an acute attack of asthma? Coffee has many positive effects on the body, including;

  • High in Antioxidants - neutralising destructive oxidation reactions, which cause everything from acne to eczema
  • Improves micro-cellular circulation - breaking up fatty deposits that can cause cellulite.
  • UVA / UVB protection - screens out sun rays responsible for burning, premature aging and skin cancer
